A lifelong producer, Sharon Ullman is deeply committed to her craft. Before her extensive career in the nonprofit arts sector, she made her mark in TV commercial and print advertising production, collaborating with celebrated directors and photographers. This background equipped her to tackle any challenge—whether managing large, diverse teams, developing innovative strategies, or guiding complex transitions.
Sharon serves on three nonprofit boards: as Board Chair of Buck’s Rock Camp, Executive Committee Member and Secretary of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and as a Director of UnionDocs. She frequently speaks on panels about artist-endowed foundations and artist residencies, sharing her knowledge and insights to foster meaningful dialogues in the field.

Robert Rauschenberg Foundation (RRF) As Deputy Director, Sharon played a key role in shaping RRF from its inception, overseeing a large-scale estate termination and transfer of high-value assets. She helped guide the expansion of the team from three to over 25 staff members and increased the endowment from $3 million to $200 million. She was instrumental in the creation of financial and operational systems and led legacy and philanthropic initiatives, including developing an artist residency program and managing real estate assets across multiple locations.

Williams College Museum of Art Working with the College’s Executive Director and 25+ staff members, Sharon supported the development and execution of a four-year strategic plan for the museum’s transition to its first-ever purpose-built museum. She facilitated a week-long planning intensive summit to gather staff input, establish organizational goals, and ensure effective future operations. Throughout the engagement, she coordinated cross-functional sub-teams and the successful integration of diverse workstreams while advocating for an equitable workload distribution to prevent burnout and ensure a successful transition process.

Faith Ringgold Estate and Anyone Can Fly Foundation Sharon is currently managing Faith Ringgold’s artist estate as it transitions to its artist-endowed foundation. She led the reconciliation and appraisal of Ringgold’s artwork, ensuring a seamless transition and long-term stewardship. Sharon also designed and implemented operational, legal, financial, and risk management systems for the estate and foundation and oversees inventory management, museum loans, and institutional partnerships. As part of this engagement, she managed the process of selecting new gallery representation through a rigorous gallery search and now serves as the primary liaison between the estate and the gallery on all matters related to representation and stewardship.
Additionally, Sharon conceptualized and spearheaded the development of a Mellon Foundation-funded initiative using Ringgold’s extensive archive. The program fosters collaborations with emerging cultural practitioners and establishes partnerships with academic and cultural institutions to enhance education, advance scholarship, and ensure the archive’s long-term legacy. -
Studio Transitions for Living Artists Sharon is currently working with multiple artists to restructure their studio practices into new entities that reflect their values and support long-term legacy planning. She is leading efforts to establish legal and governance structures, succession plans, and philanthropic frameworks, while designing operational systems and programs that ensure continuity and impact beyond the artists’ active careers.

Organizational Realignment and Strategic Administration In parallel, Sharon is engaged with two organizations undergoing significant operational transformation. With an artist-endowed foundation, she is supporting the development of operational systems, internal policies, and staffing structures to ensure a strong administrative foundation. In a separate engagement with a for-profit creative company, she is leading a business-focused reorganization to streamline operations, clarify roles, and improve overall efficiency. In both cases, her work is grounded in building structures that are clear, sustainable, and responsive to the organization’s unique goals and scale.
